I am starting my third triathlon season in 2015, my first in which I'm hoping to complete an Olympic distance event - actually two! To-date I have completed 10 sprint distance triathlons, which have varied from a 300 yard swim / 6 mile bike / 1 mile run up to over half a mile swim / 18 mile bike / 5K run. An Olympic distance triathlon (generally, not always, I've noticed) consists of a 0.9 mile (1.5K) swim / 25 mile (40K) bike / 6.2 mile (10K) run.
This is a serious jump for me as, admittedly, I have not "trained" in the past save a few swims here and there, riding my bike around the hills in town and running once or twice a week. So, to begin at the beginning, I took my first Olympic distance event date, counted the weeks leading up to it and Googled a few beginner and intermediate training plans that fit the profile. 13 weeks. I am not feeling confident!
Given I'm traveling for work next week, I found a 12 week intermediate plan that fits the bill, save for the fact that my swimming is SERIOUSLY behind. I will post my plan in the next few days once I tinker with it a bit... for now, other than the swimming, the biggest adjustment is training nearly every day vs. 3-4 times a week that I've been doing. I have time, right?
